1927 was the end year of the *Westkust verzet 1925-1927|Westkust verzet]] of 1925-1927 — and the end of the 1906-1927 communist period on Java. “1927 viel, volgden weer…” — 1927 fell, and again followed… The year is the book’s marker of the end of the inter-war resistance and the communist period.
Account from In Memoriam Maurice Henri du Croo (1951) — 1927
In 1927 in Aceh, Maurice Henri du Croo was appointed Stafofficier (staff officer) and awarded the Ridder O.N.O. met de Zwaarden (Knight of the Orde van Oranje-Nassau with Swords), recognising his military service in the Aceh War region. This decoration underscores the continued active Dutch military presence in Atjeh during the late 1920s — the same interwar period in which the Bakóngan uprising was being suppressed — and places du Croo’s Atjeh service within the same chronological frame as the closing phase of that rising.

Account from Atjeh by H.C. Zentgraff (1938)
Zentgraff records 1927 as the year of the death of Tjoet Ali and the Mengamat attack. On the night of Thursday-on-Friday in May 1927, Tjoet Ali launched the Mengamat attack on luitenant Harting’s marschbivak: zes of zeven Atjehers kwamen binnen, doch de militairen hielden het hoofd koel. The seven were all killed; wij kregen acht gewonden, waarvan vier zwaar, allen met klewangwonden. Imam Sabi was wounded in the chest, the bullet going through his back — he treated the chest wound with a modder-papje and wore a rottan gevlochten korfje over the back wound, fastened with thin rattan.
On 25 May 1927 Gosenson received a report that a bendetje had been seen in the boschrand three hours from Kandang. He went out that same night; by morning the brigade reached the place. The chase ran to the Aloeë near Kandang, where, in het water, six bodies were found — among them Tjoet Ali himself. Bij de lijken zaten eene kip en een jong aapje; het waren de mascottes van het bendehoofd en zijn vrouw. Gosenson buried Tjoet Ali as een respectabel en moedig tegenstander — vlak vóór het marschbivak Kandang, with metselwerk and a plaat, face toward Mekka. Zóó was Tjoet Ali “sjahid” geworden op 25 Mei 1927.

Account in du Croo’s Generaal Swart (1943)
In 1927 the journalist J. Schaap published H. N. A. Swart’s judgement on the renewed resistance in Atjeh in The Weekly of an Amsterdammer of 14 and 21 September 1927 — “it is, as it were, Swart’s Acehnese testament”. In 1927/1928 Swart revisited Atjeh and spoke again with T. Tjhi’ Peusangan; chiefs continued to send him telegrams and letters at New Year.
