The Overzicht van Onderscheidingen toegekend aan het Korps Maréchaussée in Atjeh en Onderhoorigheden van 1890-1930 was the register of honours conferred on members of the Korps Maréchaussée, printed on the final two pages of the 1930 jubilee number of Het Nieuws van den Dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië. It lists, year by year, awards of the Militaire Willems-Orde in the third and fourth classes, of the Eeresabel, and of the Orde van Oranje-Nassau.

Although its heading claims the period 1890–1930, the entries begin in 1897 with the award of the Militaire Willems-Orde 3rd class to Kapt. Mar. Jhr. G. J. W. C. Graafland — the officer whose name, as the editorial observed, “prijkt bovenaan op de lijst van geridderde Maréchaussées.”

The register

The Overzicht is printed on pages 15 and 16 of the jubilee number, arranged by year. Where the source supplies a register number (Alg. Stb.) it is given.

The editors’ note on the limits of the list

A footnote in the jubilee number explains that the editors would gladly have reproduced the long list in its entirety, but that lack of space compelled them to confine themselves to the officers and onderluitenants, and to report only those non-commissioned officers and men who had been granted the knight’s cross of the Militaire Willems-Orde 3rd class — “een zeldzame onderscheiding, die in totaal slechts aan elf leden van het Korps Maréchaussée is toegekend” — a rare distinction, granted in total to only eleven members of the Corps Maréchaussée: five officers, one onderluitenant, four sergeants and one soldier, “den zoo bekenden Nussy.”

The editors expressed the hope that in a memorial volume to be issued one day, all the decorated, without distinction, would be named. A further editorial note recorded that the forthcoming number of the Indisch Militair Tijdschrift was to be devoted entirely to the Korps Maréchaussée.
