F. Ch. Frank was a European sergeant of the Korps Maréchaussée in Atjeh, twice decorated with the Militaire Willems-Orde, who after nine years with the corps passed into the police service of the Netherlands Indies and was pensioned as a commissioner of the second class.
Military service
Frank was born on 30 May 1867. In February 1893 he departed for the Indies as a soldier. He was promoted corporal in 1894 and sergeant in 1896, and served nine years with the Korps Maréchaussée.
In 1905 he was appointed knight of the Militaire Willems-Orde 4th class; the following year he was Eervol Vermeld (honourably mentioned); and in 1908 he was promoted to knight of the Militaire Willems-Orde 3rd class. The register of honours records the 3rd-class award under 1909 to Eur. Sergt. Mar. F. Ch. Frank, Alg. Stb. No. 60535.
Police service
Frank left the army in 1908 and entered the police service in 1909. He was pensioned in 1928 as commissaris der tweede klasse.
Decorations
Besides the two classes of the Militaire Willems-Orde he was bearer of four eereteekens voor Belangrijke Krijgsbedrijven (decorations for important military operations) and of the silver medal for Faithful Service.
Remembered by Snell
Colonel L. A. Snell, interviewed for the same jubilee number, named Frank among “de eenvoudigen van ziel” — the simple of soul — who ought not to be forgotten when the great names of the corps were recited, listing him with Marks, Mosselman, Heynen, Emond, Rugebregt, Salawono, Kasir, Wowor, Nussy and Kromo-di-Koro as “de dappersten onder de dapperen” — the bravest among the brave.
