Dersjant was a vermaarde patrouillecommandant — a famous patrol commander — of the Korps Marechaussee van Atjeh en Onderhorigen in Aceh, paired in the book with Vastenou as the two “vermaarde patrouillecommandanten, die schitterende resultaten hadden geboekt” — the two famous patrol commanders who had achieved brilliant results. Under Dersjant, as under Vastenou, the korporaal Nussy served as a dardanel before joining the colonne Schmidt.

“Nussy was dardanel geweest bij Vastenou en Dersjant, vermaarde patrouillecommandanten, die schitterende resultaten hadden geboekt.” Nussy — the book’s most fully drawn dardanel — served as a dardanel under Vastenou and Dersjant before joining the colonne Schmidt. In the Maréchaussée Jubileum-nummer (1930)

The Overzicht van Onderscheidingen printed in the 1930 jubilee number of Het Nieuws van den Dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië records under 1906 the award to 1ste Luits. Mar. L. Dersjant of the knight’s cross of the Militaire Willems-Orde 4th class, among the six recipients of that class in that year — with J. H. Ch. Vastenou, G. K. W. F. de Vaynes van Brakell Buys, W. L. Kramers, O. L. Brewer and W. V. Rhemrev.

A portrait notice in the same issue styles him oud-kolonel der Infanterie L. Dersjant and gives his career: born on 23 April 1877, he was appointed second lieutenant of Infantry in 1900 after completing the K.M.A., and was placed with the Korps Maréchaussée in February 1903. After having twice been eervol vermeld (honourably mentioned), he was awarded the knight’s cross of the Militaire Willems-Orde 4th class as first lieutenant in 1906. He then served in the successive ranks, to be pensioned as colonel.
