The Eeresabel — the sabre of honour — was a Netherlands-Indies military distinction conferred for gallantry, and one of the three classes of award recorded in the register of honours of the Korps Maréchaussée printed in the 1930 jubilee number, alongside the Militaire Willems-Orde and the Orde van Oranje-Nassau.

Significance
The Eeresabel occupied a position below the Militaire Willems-Orde in the hierarchy of Netherlands-Indies military distinctions, and in several cases in the Maréchaussée register the same officer received first the sabre and later the knight’s cross — as with F. Darlang, who received the Eeresabel in 1898 and the Militaire Willems-Orde 4th class in 1904, and H. J. Schmidt, Eeresabel in 1911 and knight 4th class in 1909 and 3rd class in 1913.
