Capture of the Kraton of Aceh was the Dutch occupation of the Kraton of Aceh after the Acehnese court had left it during the Second Dutch Expedition to Aceh.
Course
The capture followed operations around the Missigit, Kota Goenoengan, and Penajong. Jan van Swieten argued that the event had profound psychological and political effect but did not make a new sultan’s installation possible: by local understanding, rulers had to be inaugurated at the Kraton itself.
Significance
The episode belongs to the continuing Aceh War and the contested consequences of the Capture of the Kraton of Aceh.
