Dutch proclamation of 28 January 1874 was Jan van Swieten’s proclamation issued at Kota Radja on 28 January 1874 after the capture of the Kraton of Aceh.

Course

It told Acehnese inhabitants that the struggle had been decided in Dutch favour, invited them to lay down arms, return with their families to their homes, and resume peaceful occupations. The proclamation was paired with efforts to attract people to the Penajong camp and with contacts involving Teuku Nek and Teuku Lampassei.

Significance

The episode belongs to the continuing Aceh War and the contested consequences of the Capture of the Kraton of Aceh.
