Acehnese attack on Penajong (1874) was an Acehnese attack on the Dutch camp at Penajong after the capture of the Kraton of Aceh.
Course
It occurred amid the uncertain aftermath of the court’s flight, the escape of followers of Mas Soemoe Widikdjo, and Dutch attempts to turn military success into political adhesion. The event demonstrated that occupation of the Kraton had not removed Acehnese capacity for organized attack.
Significance
The episode belongs to the continuing Aceh War and the contested consequences of the Capture of the Kraton of Aceh.
