Capture of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque (1874) was the Dutch seizure of the Missigit during the Second Dutch Expedition to Aceh, an operation presented by Jan van Swieten as a major step toward the Kraton of Aceh.
Course
The episode followed the death of a Dutch parliamentarian and siege works. Its capture had immediate military consequences, but the source’s later political argument made clear that possession of a symbolic central building did not itself secure Acehnese consent or end resistance.
Significance
The episode belongs to the continuing Aceh War and the contested consequences of the Capture of the Kraton of Aceh.
