On this date in 1884 kolonel Demmeni took office as civil and military governor of Atjeh and the Governor-General van Rees issued his proclamation that no step would ever be made backwards — while the concentration was already in preparation (see Concentration decision (16-17 June 1884)); also the opening date of Boumeester’s inspection of 1879.
