Kapitein Schadée was a Dutch officer of the Netherlands East Indies Army who served in the outposts of Groot-Atjeh during the alliance period and who led the patrol from Biloel on the afternoon of 29 March 1896 — the first Dutch reconnaissance after the defection of Teukoe Oemar — which established that the post was surrounded.
At Biloel and Kroeng Gloempang
Hooijer identified Schadée among the officers photographed on the bench at Biloel, together with Dijkstra, Zon (who later fell), Zijdveld, Colyn, Kapitein Engelbert van Bevervoorde, Van der Wedden, the lieutenants Van Delden and Kastens, and the medical officers Nanta and Tromp. He was also identified on the plate of the interior of Kroeng Gloempang, where he appears at the left of the passage between the barracks named Heerengracht by the garrison, Van der Wedden being at the right.
The patrol of 29 March 1896
On the morning of 29 March 1896 nobody appeared at the passer under the great tree at Biloel — not even the police oppasser — where Toekoe Djohan was to have assembled a thousand warriors and a thousand coolies for the action against Lamkrak; the nearby blokhuizen held by friendly Achehnese were found abandoned. Towards half past four in the afternoon Kapitein Schadée went with a patrol of sixty men towards Tjot Goeë to satisfy himself of the state of affairs. When the point had pushed some three hundred paces ahead, beyond the covered ground surrounding Biloel on the north side, it received heavy fire from every side across the flooded rice-fields. Luitenant Zijdveld, struck by a bullet in the lower jaw, was compelled to fall back, and from that moment Biloel remained surrounded by the enemy.
