The Geneeskundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch-Indië (“Medical Journal for the Netherlands Indies”) was the principal medical periodical of the Netherlands Indies, in whose Afl. 19 of Deel 80 (1940) Dr. C. E. Gomperts’s report on the Groot-Atjeh eye survey appeared, printed at Batavia-Centrum by G. Kolff & Co.
The Gomperts offprint
The report occupies pages 1191 to 1238 of the volume and was received by the editors on 25 October 1939. The offprint was catalogued as DLP-157 in the Bibliotheek KITLV. Running footers in the text carry the journal’s abbreviated title, “Gen. Tijdschr. Afl. 19.”
As a source cited within the report
Gomperts’s list of consulted literature cites four separate volumes of the journal — the years 1935, 1936, 1937 and 1938 — as the vehicle of the Netherlands-Indies debate on xerophthalmie in which he was intervening. The published work of Mevrouw Van Stockum, Dr. J. H. de Haas, Sie Boen Lian, Oey Djoen Hoat and J. Tijssen on the subject appeared largely in its pages.
Alongside it Gomperts cited the Mededeelingen van den Dienst der Volksgezondheid in Nederlandsch-Indië (year XXVI, 1937, No. 3), the Volkstelling 1930 part IV on the indigenous population of Sumatra, the Klinische Wochenschrift of 1937 as abstracted in the Nederlandsch Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde, and the Handelingen van het 7e Nederlandsch-Indisch Natuurwetenschappelijk Congres.
