Lam-Kabeuë was a valley moekim of Groot-Atjeh covered by eye survey of 1937, and one of the three moekims in which the Acehnese population knew xerophthalmie under the name penjikit sisë.
Food supply and xerophthalmia
Lam-Kabeuë was among the valley moekims — with Indrapoeri and Seulimeum — in which the rice harvest of 1936–1937 was less favourable, the long drought having caused the paddi planting to fail. Dr. C. E. Gomperts found that the percentage of xerophthalmia cases in these moekims was “vrijwel gelijk” to that in Moekim Lam-Teuba, where there was a rice surplus — one of the three comparisons on which he rested his conclusion that food supply alone could not explain the distribution of the disease.
Acehnese nomenclature
In Lam-Kabeuë, as in Lhong and Lho-Nga, xerophthalmia was known under the name penjikit sisë; in the remainder of the surveyed area the condition had no such name.
