Description
Village religious officialresponsible for ritual slaughter (slacht). Must wash thoroughly before slaughtering; his wife must not be pregnant nor he ill. May not clench teeth nor wipe knife too quickly during slaughter, lest meat be tough or unpalatable. Also leads funeral prayers.gampong; the ‘mother’ of the village (with the keutjhi’Title prefixed to names of religious scholars/teachers; e.g.Teungkoe Tirò, Teungkoe di Mata Ië.
Significance
The term teungkoe is recorded by Jongejan as part of the cultural, administrative, or institutional vocabulary of Aceh.
