Samarkilang was the remote district on the edge of the Gajòland which served Tgk. di Mata Ië as a refuge and near which he was killed on 10 July 1917.
Als onze jagers het hem ál te lastig maakten, week hij voor een tijdje uit naar het toen nog vrijwel onbekende gebied van Samarkilang en het Oostelijke Gajoland, H. C. Zentgraaff wrote. On 24 December 1909 a group of infantry returning from Samarkilang was surprised at Tjampoeron, the captured carbines forming the Telongbende. In 1911 ladangs and hiding-places of Tgk. di Barat were cleared up in the Samarkilang country. On 10 July 1917 a patrol under the native sergeant Toegimin found in the forest near Samarkilang an insignificant ladang with two houses; two unknown Acehnese were shot, and Acehnese of Samarkilang seeing the body threw themselves to the ground in reverence, crying “Teungkoe, be not angry — it was not our fault.” From the Teungkoe’s last followers formed the Samarkilang-bende, whose head was captured only in 1937.
