Samarkilang-bende was the band formed from the last followers of Tgk. di Mata Ië after his death near Samarkilang on 10 July 1917, whose head was not captured until 1937.
His spirit long went on working; out of his last followers there formed the well-known Samarkilang band, whose leader was only taken prisoner in 1937 — twenty years later! The persistence of the band twenty years after the pacification is one of du Croo’s indications of how long the memory and prestige of the great resistance leaders survived them.
