Pidië (Pedir) is a location in or related to Aceh described in Jongejan’s Land en Volk van Atjeh Vroeger en Nu. District/region; a haard (hearth) of resistance since beginning of Aceh war.
Description
District/region; a haard (hearth) of resistance since beginning of Aceh war. Many religious schools there; influential oelamas originated there. Pedir-expeditie of August 1898. Pretendent-Sultan fled to Pidië to marry off his son. Gampong Tirò (origin of the Teungkoe Tirò lineage) is in Pidië. Pidië-vallei home of resistance leader Teukoe Bin Peukan.
Significance
Pidië (Pedir) is recorded by Jongejan as part of the geography and historical landscape of Aceh.
