The year of the death of Meukuta Alam (Iskandar Muda), the greatest of the sultans of Acheh, and the accession of his successor Iskandar Thani. The date is fixed by the testimony of Nūruddīn ar-Rānīrī in his treatise *Ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm* (printed at Mecca in 1316 H on the margin of an edition of Fatḥ al-muʿīn), who relates that he came to Acheh in 1637 while Iskandar Thani was king. The death of Iskandar Muda marks the end of the golden age of Acheh and the beginning of the orthodox reaction against the Wujudiyyah mysticism of Hamzah Pansuri and Shamsuddin of Pasai, in which Raniri himself was the principal actor.
