XXII Mukims (Dua Puluh Dua Mukim) was one of the three traditional federal districts (Sagi) of Great Aceh, encompassing the upper interior valley of the Aceh River.
Role in the War
Ruled by the hereditary Panglima Sagi Panglima Polim, the XXII Mukims served as the primary manpower reservoir and strategic stronghold for Acehnese resistance forces. Its mountain warriors (orang tunong) spearheaded defenses at the Mesjid Raya Aceh and Kraton of Aceh.
Major colonial campaigns were launched into the XXII Mukims, culminating in the Battle of Selimeum in July 1879.
