Lamjong was a post within the geconcentreerde linie of Groot-Atjeh, connected to the ceintuurtram (girdle tramway) system and linked to Pakan-Kroeng-Tjoet by a grintweg (gravel road), and also connected to Kota-Pohama by grintweg. It was the nearest post to Toengkoeb, from which a medical officer had to be fetched when one was needed at that outpost, and the starting point of the old road running through Toengkoeb, Messigit Siem and Kroeng Kali to the foot of the hill country bounding the Atjeh valley on the east. The post lay within the XXVI Moekims sector, with Toengkoeb to the northeast (evacuated February 1885), Pakan-Kroeng-Tjoet to the northwest, Boekit-Karang to the south, and Roempit to the southeast.

Medical support for Toengkoeb

Hooijer recorded that the garrison of Toengkoeb numbered only two officers and fifty men and that no officier van gezondheid (medical officer) was present; when one was needed werd hij van den meest nabijgelegen post in de geconcentreerde linie — van Lamjong — gehaald (“he was fetched from the nearest post in the concentrated line — from Lamjong”).

The old road

The road formerly laid through the kampong (village) chain — of which Kroeng Kali formed the north-eastern and Toengkoeb the opposite extremity — ran from Lamjong in the concentrated line by way of Toengkoeb and Messigit Siem to Kroeng Kali and thence to the foot of the bare hill country east of the valley.

Account from Verstege’s Een beroep op het Nederlandsche volk (1886)

Verstege names Lamjong one of the eighteen posts of the line of 1885; the line had been shortened eastward from Toengkoep to Lamjong at the execution of the concentration (see Completion of the concentrated position (March 1885)).
