Siem was a kampong (village) in the northern part of the XXVI Moekims of Groot-Atjeh, burnt together with Kroeng Kali in 1880 after two days of fighting, and the site of the mosque of Masdjid Siem.
The action of 1880
Hooijer recorded that the column which in 1880 had to penetrate the northern part of the XXVI Moekims met strong resistance there, and could approach and set fire to the kampongs (villages) of Siem and Kroeng Kali only after two days of fighting. When the population that had fled returned after some time, the head appointed over it by the Dutch was murdered by Toekoe Nja Hassan.
The mosque
The stone mosque of Masdjid Siem stood on the old road from Lamjong through Toengkoeb to Kroeng Kali and was held as a fortified position by the Moslemin until stormed by Overste Sievers in October 1893.
