Three of his subordinates he placed above the rest: Dijkstra, Scheepens and Schmidt. He placed Dijkstra and later Scheepens at Sigli, the most important troop command on the north coast; the principal bivouac in the plain of Pidië, Lam Meulò, he put under captain Jhr. Boreel; when resistance revived in the Gajò Loeös after some painful setbacks of the infantry garrison he sent the 1st Division there under the General Staff captain Muurling, with his two Atjeh lieutenants Snell and Van Eck.

W. Muurling was the captain of the General Staff whom H. N. A. Swart sent to the Gajò Loeös with the 1st Division of the Korps Marechaussee when resistance revived there after painful setbacks of the infantry garrison, and who as Civil Authority at Blang Kedjeren restored order with his two well-known Atjeh lieutenants Snell and Van Eck.

Snell served with Van Eck under captain Muurling when the 1st Division of marechaussée was sent to the Gajò Loeös after setbacks of the infantry garrison, and “soon restored order.” In May 1911, while Muurling accompanied the Kedjoerön Petiambang and fourteen chiefs to the fair exhibition at Koeta Radja, Snell temporarily conducted the administration — “and he, while acting, brought in eight more men from the resistance and four muzzle-loaders.”
