Account from Verstege’s Een beroep op het Nederlandsche volk (1886)
On this date in 1885 Fransen van de Putte, in the Eerste Kamer, declared the concentration excellently successful, recommended passive waiting for ‘a generation or two’, and urged the government not to give way to the theoretical offensive demands, which he caricatured (see Een beroep op het Nederlandsche volk in zake het Atjeh-vraagstuk (Verstege, 1886)).
