On this date in 1874 minister Gericke van Herwijnen closed the secret Kamerzitting with ‘In plaats van den aangeboden olijftak verkozen zij het zwaard’, and the member Stieltjes pronounced his greatest grief: the expedition begun while the army was unreplenished; see also Gericke van Herwijnen.
