Lampermé was a place in Groot-Atjeh between which and Tjot Iri the steam tram was regularly fired on during the crisis of the spring of 1896. P. H. R. Beuming records the detail among the signs that de strijd was weer in vollen gang — the struggle was again in full swing — in the weeks after the defection of Teuku Umar: shots rang continually from the surrounding kampongs, in the distance the guns of the forward posts thundered, and nightly ambushes were laid in the terrain between the road to Ketapan Doea and Oleh-leh, the strip being lit by the electric searchlights of the warships.
