Gombora Island is a small island situated near the mouth of the Peladjoe tributary of the Soensang River. During the 1821 Dutch expedition against Palembang, the island was fortified by enemy forces and served as a defensive position for artillery batteries (page 94).
Role in the 1821 Campaign
The Dutch fleet had to contend with the fortified island while attempting to navigate the riverine approaches to Palembang, illustrating the extensive fortifications erected by local forces in the Aceh‑influenced region.
