Lieutenant Serres was a junior officer of the Dutch Marine Corps who fell in action during the assault on the battery of Gombora on 27 August 1824. His death was recorded among the thirty‑three Dutch dead and one hundred‑thirty‑three wounded suffered in the operation.
Fatal Engagement
Serres was part of the landing detachment that stormed the enemy position. The fierce exchange resulted in his death together with several marines and sailors.
