Daroe was a kampong (village) situated at the eastern exit of the Glitaroem mountain pass in Acheh. It was the scene of a fierce engagement on 28 January 1876 when Dutch marines and army units forced the enemy to abandon the settlement.
Battle Details
The terrain around Daroe was heavily marshy and covered in sawah (rice fields). After a short firefight, the Dutch forces reached the “mesigit” (temple) and a stone‑ringed wall surrounding it. The enemy retreated from the kampong, firing from the sawahs.
Aftermath
The Dutch bivouac was later engaged and the column withdrew after suffering one dead and ten wounded.
