What precisely happened around T. Tjhi’ Toenòng thereafter remained obscure. On 26 January 1905 — at a time when H. N. A. Swart still governed at Lho’ Seumawè — the patrol of sergeant Vollaers, seventeen men, was surprised in the meunasah of Meurandéh Paja, east of Lho’ Soekon, where it had neglected all security measures and bivouacked carelessly. Sixteen men were killed; only one native fusilier escaped.

After the surprise of the patrol of sergeant Vollaers at Meurandéh Paja on 26 January 1905, T. Tjhi’ Toenòng was arrested at H. N. A. Swart’s order; Swart was then transferred, Van Daalen became Governor and converted the sentence of banishment into death. Du Croo hinted that Tjoet Meutia may have driven her husband to the act — “who had meanwhile borne him a son and had spurred him on” — but left the question open, as it remained obscure whether T. Tjhi’ Toenòng was guilty at all.
From T. Radja Sabi
T. Radja Sabi was born about 1901 to Tjoet Meutia and Teukoe Tjoet Moehamat, later T. Tjhi’ Toenòng, the excluded heir to the oelèëbalangschap of Keureutòë. His father was arrested at H. N. A. Swart’s order after the surprise of sergeant Vollaers’ patrol at Meurandéh Paja on 26 January 1905, and executed after Van Daalen converted the sentence of banishment to death.
