Tadema was a contrôleur of the Binnenlandsch Bestuur posted at Oleh-leh in December 1875. In the manuscript of his fellow official Kroesen — afterwards governor of Sumatra’s Westkust — Tadema appears when the newly arrived Majoor Romswinckel applied to him for help to a vessel for his baggage: Tadema asked Toekoe Nja Mohamad, one of the Atjehnese greats who was just then with him, to provide a sampan, and so became the unwitting witness of the sampan incident that Kroesen quoted to illustrate the Atjehnese character (see Kroesen (controleur at Oleh-leh)).
