Said Abubakar was an Indonesian plantation administrator who was appointed as the manager (beheerder) of one of the approximately fifty plantation enterprises in Atjeh that were being returned to management following the Dutch-Indonesian hostilities. His appointment followed the discussions between a V.V.R.O.S. delegation and representatives of the companies with interests in Atjeh, held at Kotaradja in August 1950 with a commission formed by the governor of Atjeh.
Context
After the August 1950 discussions at Kotaradja, approximately 40 of the roughly 50 enterprises in Atjeh could be released, of which 20 were immediately taken into management. The technical advice for the enterprises placed under management was provided by experts of the Sipef, including C. A. Kleingeld, who remained for several months at Langsar Estate. Said Abubakar’s appointment as local manager (beheerder) represented the broader pattern of Indonesian administrators replacing European personnel in the management of plantation enterprises during the early independence period.
