C. A. Kleingeld was a Dutch plantation inspector (inspecteur) of the Sipef (Sumatran Planters’ Association) who, following the survey of plantation enterprises in Atjeh in early 1950, remained for several months at Langsar Estate to provide technical advice to the newly appointed Indonesian manager Said Abubakar. His presence exemplified the transitional arrangement whereby European technical expertise was retained while management was transferred to Indonesian administrators.
