13th Infantry Battalion was an active combat infantry battalion of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army deployed as reinforcements to the Aceh operational theater during General Pel’s Campaign in Aceh in 1875 and 1876.
Composition
Arriving in late 1875, the battalion numbered 18 European officers, 185 European soldiers, and 377 indigenous soldiers, totaling 580 men.
Operations in the Interior
By 30 January 1876, the battalion was operating in mobile field columns around Pekan Badak. On 13 February 1876, the 13th Infantry Battalion formed part of the primary offensive strike force during the March through the XXII Moekims, battling Acehnese defenders under Panglima Polem across rice paddies and bentengs.
