Van Daalen Expeditions in 1901 and 1904 were Dutch military campaigns into interior of north Sumatra to bring Gajo-land and Alaslanden under Dutch authority and end involvement of Gajos and Alassers in Atjeh war.
Narrative
Without busy contact with Atjehers, people of north Sumatra interior already early under highness Atjeh sultans come. Once subject, Gajo and Alas had to show help to Atjeh princes as soon as in trouble, and from this derives that interior people, Mohammedan besides, was involved in weapon violence of Atjehers against Netherlands government. Around 1900 still case. Time that end came.
Hence expeditions of Van Daalen in 1901 and 1904. Order placed on affairs, but only in 1911 state entered that may bear name pacification. Bestuur-work strengthened by presence few bivouacs, spanned only ten years. Department Gajo- en Alaslanden formed 1905, in 1908 already parceled among other administrative areas, but in 1922 restored with hoofdplaats Takengon, counting underafdeelingen Takengon, Gajoe Loeës, Serbödjadi and Alaslanden.
Van Daalen in 1904 also began construction Gajo-weg with much heerendienst and money.
In Gajo-land, according to Broersma, name Van Daalen alone makes Gajo’er run.
