Bestuursindeeling van 1922 was the new administrative division of the gouvernement Atjèh en Onderhoorigheden effected by Stbl. 1922 N°. 451, dividing the gewest into six afdeelingen each under an assistent-resident. The reorganisation could not be reflected in Volume I of Kreemer’s work but was incorporated in Volume II.

The six afdeelingen

The six afdeelingen and their onderafdeelingen were:

  1. Groot Atjèh (seat: Koeta Radja) — onderafdeelingen: Koeta Radja, Lhö’ Nga, Seulimeum, Sabang
  2. Pidië (seat: Sigli) — onderafdeelingen: Sigli, Meureudoe, Lam Meulö, Padang Tidji
  3. Noordkust van Atjèh (seat: Lhö’ Seumawè) — onderafdeelingen: Bireuën, Lhö’ Seumawè, Lhö’ Soekön
  4. Oostkust van Atjèh (seat: Langsa) — onderafdeelingen: Idi, Langsa, Tëmiang
  5. Gajö en Alaslanden (seat: Takéngön) — onderafdeelingen: Takéngön, Sërbödjadi, Gajö Loeüs, Alaslanden
  6. Westkust van Atjèh (seat: Meulaböh) — onderafdeelingen: Tjalang, Meulaböh, Tapa’ Toean, Singkel, Simaloer

European staff

The European staff for the reorganised gewest comprised 7 assistent-residenten (1 in Koeta Radja for general work), 8 controleurs, 15 gezaghebbers/fungeerende controleurs, and 4 aspirant-controleurs.

The transfer of VII Moekim’s Pidië

A notable feature of the reorganisation was the transfer of the VII Moekim’s Pidië (comprising Nitjah, Tandjong, Beurabö, Gögö, Peudaja, Koenjèt, Palöh, and Geuleudiëng) from the Gouvernementsgebied of Groot Atjèh to the new (non-directly governed) afdeeling Pidië as part of the new onderafdeeling Padang Tidji.

Former divisions

Before 1922, the gewest had been organised differently, with the afdeeling Groot Atjèh covering the sagi’s XXII, XXV, and XXVI Moekim’s, and the afdeeling Noordkust van Atjèh including temporary onderafdeelingen Meergebied and Dörötstreek (which were absorbed into the new afdeeling Gajö en Alaslanden in 1922). The afdeeling Pidië was newly created; the afdeeling Oostkust lost the onderafdeeling Sërbödjadi to the new afdeeling Gajö en Alaslanden.
