Pante Cermin was a strategic coastal landing beach located near the mouth of the Aceh River in Great Aceh.
Historical Significance
Pante Cermin served as the primary beachhead for Dutch military invasions during the nineteenth century. On 8 April 1873, Major-General Johan Harmen Rudolf Köhler landed the entire force of the First Aceh Expedition at Pante Cermin under naval artillery cover during the Landing at Pante Cermin.
During the Second Aceh Expedition, landing operations under General Jan van Swieten took place nearby at Pedro Point and Tjankoel Loee on 9 December 1873. Pante Cermin was fortified with stockades (kota) by Acehnese forces prior to its capture by colonial troops.
