Maraksa was a coastal locality reconnoitred by Dutch forces in the later 1874 operations covered by Jan van Swieten.
Historical setting
Its reconnaissance was connected with the lighthouse at Pulau Bras, naval action in the VI Mukim, and attempts to build political relations through maritime commanders.

Account from Van Swieten (1879)
Lieutenant-General Van Swieten, in De waarheid over onze vestiging in Atjeh (1879), provided extensive detail about Maraksa’s role in the campaign. During the diplomatic exchanges of March 1873, Sidi Tahil — the intermediary dispatched by Commissioner Nieuwenhuizen — was guided through the lagoon by Malilla, a man from Priaman living at Maraksa, and brought to the Missigit of Maraksa, where he found several chiefs of the XXV Moekims.
During the Second Expedition, the Dutch deliberately chose to land east of the Atjeh river rather than west, partly because less resistance was expected there and partly because they wished to spare the kampong of Maraksa, whose head Toekoe Nek had repeatedly offered his services. The area became a centre of Dutch commercial activity during the occupation, with a bazar where Acehnese traders sold produce to the soldiers.
Van Swieten also recorded that after the occupation of Mosapie, the coastal area of the VI Moekims was “entirely abandoned” and the population withdrew to the mountains. This had the effect of depriving the local chief Toekoe Nanta of his principal kampongs — Bital and Ketapang Doewa — and their main means of subsistence, the fisheries and small trade.
