In the night of 23–24 March 1911 a patrol of one brigade of marechaussée under the bivouac commander at Leuhong, captain Van der Vlerk, was stalked in a marching bivouac in the forest by the Keureutòë-rivier and attacked with cold steel by some ill-disposed persons; a native marechaussée was killed and captain Van der Vlerk and two Acehnese guides lightly wounded, while a model carbine was lost. It was proved that the attack had been carried out by old, devoted members of Tgk. di Barat’s band. All available patrols went out to trace and pursue the Teungkoe.
From Keureutòë
1911 brought “the great improvement,” the monthly reports habitually opening “the political situation remained favourable,” though Tgk. di Barat returned from the Gajòland to the upper Keureutòë in June and a night attack on the patrol of captain Van der Vlerk on the Keureutòë-rivier on 23–24 March was traced to his old adherents. With his death at Behrens’s hands on 22 February 1912 “the situation in the whole North Coast division became stable and ranged from favourable to very favourable; the suffering there was over.”
From Kroeëng Peutòë
Mosselman had marched out from Lho’ Soekon on 22 October 1910 and picked up fresh tracks in a side-stream of the Kroeëng Peutòë on the third day. The pursuit ran over waterfalls, boulders and slippery stones; towards four in the afternoon of 25 October he saw smoke above the trees and charged with seven men into a band certainly sixty strong. The corpse of the old blind Teungkoe, defended to the death by two young men, was recognised by the golden weapon, the famous bawar. In March 1911 a patrol under captain Van der Vlerk was attacked in a marching bivouac on the Keureutòë-rivier by old adherents of Tgk. di Barat.
