Description
Region south of Aceh. First heathen Alassers came from Bataklanden. Bataks also used as slaves (less valued than Nias). Batak physical features seen in Alassers (broad, indented nose). Batak influence in Alaslanden reduces strictness of incest taboo. Part of Van Daalen’s 1904 march.
Significance
Bataklanden is recorded by Jongejan as part of the geography and historical landscape of Aceh.
