Alu Talu is an iron-ore locality on the West coast of Atjeh, 78 km NW of Meulaboh, recorded by Jansen, Lindberg and Wolvekamp in 1922 and reproduced in Van Bemmelen’s *Geology of Indonesia* (1949). The Alu Talu locality is No. 5 in Van Bemmelen’s Fig. 41 key, and is recorded together with the Kr. Rigaih locality (No. 4, 88 km NW of Meulaboh) under a single entry. For the geological description see the entry on Kr. Rigaih.

Significance

Alu Talu is significant for the encyclopedia of Acheh history because it is one of the four West-Atjeh iron-ore localities recorded in the colonial geological literature, and the second north-westernmost of the four (after Kr. Rigaih at 88 km NW of Meulaboh). The locality’s contact-metamorphic origin, with the diagnostic presence of garnet, places it within the same geological model that applies to all the documented Atjeh iron-ore occurrences, and accordingly within the same mineral province that extends, in the colonial geological literature, from the northern tip of Atjeh to the southern tip of Benkulen.
