Raja of Gighen was the ruling indigenous chieftain (radja) of the coastal port state of Gighen along the northeast coast of Sumatra during the 1870s.
Submission to General van Swieten in 1873
During the Second Aceh Expedition, following the fall of coastal redoubts near Meuraxa, the Raja of Gighen drafted and signed the Raja of Gighen Letter of Submission on 30 December 1873 (11 Dzoelkangidah 1290 AH).
In this letter, he formally offered the submission of Gighen to Commander-in-Chief General J. van Swieten and the Dutch East Indies Government, a major diplomatic event cited in Atjeh gedurende de tweede expeditie en later (1876) as evidence of colonial progress in coastal Aceh.
