R. ten Seldam was a Dutch 1st lieutenant of the Netherlands Indies Army who was wounded on 8 April 1896 in the excursion to restore communication with the besieged forward posts Biloel and Lamkoenjit. The operation, undertaken by the 3e, 14e and two companies of the 9e Bataljon with mountain artillery, engineers and two platoons of cavalry, reached both posts under heavy fire but broke off on news that Toekoe Oemar was advancing with 4,000 men, so that Biloel could not be reinforced. Wounded with Ten Seldam was 1st Lieutenant J. H. Hoeksteijn.
