Laurens was a European fusilier of the Netherlands Indies Army, Algemeen Stamboek no. 19396, killed in the patrol of Captain Van Blokland near Anak Baté on 7 March 1896.
He is named in the casualty roll given by P. H. R. Beuming in Schetsen uit den strijd op Groot-Atjeh, which lists by name and service number the European sergeant Van Oosten (no. 36662), the corporal Willems (no. 40845) and the fusiliers Van Manden (no. 34176), Laurens (no. 19396), Roosjen (no. 30288), Van Groenekan (no. 36143), Voegeli (no. 27330) and Magi (no. 45564), together with the severely wounded fusilier Debats (no. 27702) and two native fusiliers, and twenty-one lightly wounded other ranks.
Three of the European dead, with one native fusilier, were left in the enemy’s hands when the attempt of the sergeant Israëls to recover the body of Van Oosten failed.
