K. F. Holle was a private individual established at Waspada in the Preanger Regentschappen of Java, who for his many years of disinterested and important services and advice to the Indies government had been granted the title of honorary advisor for native affairs. Together with the official charged with the direction of the kina cultivation, K. W. van Gorkom, and the assistant-resident of Bandong, D. Ples, he was charged by the Indies government with the task of establishing, in common consultation, principles for the government coffee cultivation, as far as cultivation and preparation were concerned, and of formulating these in a manual.
The Coffee Cultivation
For the improvement of the coffee cultivation in general, three experts were charged by the Indies government with the task — namely the official charged with the direction of the kina cultivation, K. W. van Gorkom; the assistant-resident of Bandong, D. Ples; and the heer K. F. Holle, a private individual established at Waspada in the Preanger Regentschappen, “who for his many years of disinterested and important services and advice to the Indies government had been granted the title of honorary advisor for native affairs” — “to establish, in common consultation, principles for the government coffee cultivation, as far as cultivation and preparation are concerned, and to formulate these in a manual. The named assistant-resident was at the same time invited, after the completion of that work, to compile a handbook for the coffee cultivation and preparation with all that pertains to it, suitable, on translation into the native languages, to serve the native as a textbook and reader.”
