The Oostkust van Sumatra-Instituut (East Coast of Sumatra Institute) was a Dutch scholarly and cultural organisation based in Amsterdam, dedicated to documenting the history, society, and culture of the East Coast of Sumatra. It published a series of Mededelingen (Communications), of which No. 37 — Deli-Figuren uit de jaren 1950 t/m 1952 — was compiled by its Secretary-Archivist, F. J. J. Dootjes, and published in 1953.
Activities
The Institute served as a centre for the expatriate community of former East Coast Sumatra residents in the Netherlands, maintaining records and publishing documentation on the region. Its chairman was involved in various technical and transport organisations in the Netherlands Indies.
Publications
The Institute’s Mededelingen series included the Deli-Data and Deli-Figuren compilations by F. J. J. Dootjes, which provided detailed prosopographic records of the personnel and institutions of the East Coast of Sumatra — including the Atjeh region — during the late colonial and early independence periods.
