Indisch Instituut — Dutch for “Indies Institute” — was the Amsterdam-based colonial institute under whose auspices the volume Wat Indië Ontving en Schonk was published by Wereldbibliotheek N.V. in 1946. The title page of the volume records that it was “uitgegeven in 1946 onder de auspiciën van het Indisch Instituut” — that is, published under the auspices of the Indisch Instituut. The institute’s role in the volume’s publication gave the volume the institutional authority of the premier Dutch colonial-research foundation of the mid-twentieth century.
Relationship to the Koninklijk Koloniaal Instituut
The Indisch Instituut named on the title page of Wat Indië Ontving en Schonk is the institutional successor of, or alternative name for, what was earlier called the Koninklijk Koloniaal Instituut (Royal Colonial Institute) — the Royal Association Colonial Institute founded in 1910 in Amsterdam, which by the late-colonial period had developed into the principal Dutch research foundation for the study of the Dutch East Indies.
