Merapi was a steam warship of the Royal Netherlands Navy that took part, under the command of Kapitein-Luitenant Greve, in the sea-borne expedition that landed the Lamtoba column at Lampanas on 27 July 1879, kept the naval station there during the troops’ stay, and returned to the station before Pedir on 4 September 1879, as recorded in W. Cool and G. B. Hooijer’s Eene schoone bladzijde uit Atjeh’s geschiedenis (1889).
The transport of 26–27 July 1879
At the embarkation of 26 July 1879, the Z. M. Stoomschip Merapi received two European companies of the 6e Bataljon Infanterie and the ambulance. On the passage to the north coast she lay with the squadron’s other steamships — the Soerabaya, Borneo and Graaf van Bijland — on the roadstead of Lampanas, and landed her troops in the debarkation of the next morning.

While the column operated in the interior, the Merapi and the Amboina remained stationed on the roadstead of Lampanas. Her commander, Greve, as the senior naval officer present, regulated with the column-commandant the three-division embarkation by which the transport Graaf van Bijland repatriated the whole column between 2 and 4 September 1879; when the last division had gone out at ten o’clock on the last morning, the Merapi and the Amboina steamed back to their station before Pedir.
