Amboina was a steam warship of the Royal Netherlands Navy stationed on the roadstead of Lampanas during the stay of the Lamtoba column ashore in July–September 1879, as recorded in W. Cool and G. B. Hooijer’s Eene schoone bladzijde uit Atjeh’s geschiedenis (1889).
The Lampanas station
During the five weeks in which the column operated in the interior — from the landing of 27 July 1879 through the occupation of Lamtoba, the march to Selimoen, and the return to the quarantine camp at Lampanas — the Amboina and the Merapi kept the sea-watch on the roadstead of the little coastal village. On 4 September 1879, when the last division of the troops had been put aboard the transport Graaf van Bijland for Oleh-leh, “stoomde … de oorlogsschepen Merapi en Amboina, die tijdens het verblijf der troepen op de reede van Lampanas, aldaar gestationeerd waren geweest, naar hun station voor Pedir terug”: the two warships steamed back to their station before Pedir, and the daily movement that had so long ruled the roadstead and the coast of Lampanas vanished for good.
