Borneo was a steam warship of the Royal Netherlands Navy that formed one of the four steamers of the squadron which carried the Lamtoba column from Oleh-leh and landed it at Lampanas on 27 July 1879, as recorded in W. Cool and G. B. Hooijer’s Eene schoone bladzijde uit Atjeh’s geschiedenis (1889).
Service of the expedition
At the embarkation of 26 July 1879, the Z. M. Stoomschip Borneo received the detachment of Mineurs with the remaining European company of the 9e Bataljon Infanterie — the baggage and personeel of the expedition being so distributed among the four steamships: the Merapi with two European companies of the 6e Bataljon Infanterie and the ambulance; the Soerabaya with the staff, the artillery, three companies of the 9e Bataljon and the recording personnel; the Borneo as described; and the Graaf van Bijland with the staff, the two native companies of the 6e Bataljon, the Intendance and the unattached coolies. Together with the squadron she swung at anchor on the calm sea of the Lampanas roadstead through the golden morning of 27 July, and discharged her troops into the boat-trains towed to the strand by the steam barkasses.
