Description
Means to which the population resorted to protect themselves against insane outbursts. Van Loon found people chained in ‘block’ for over 10 years, completely grown crooked, unable to walk. Author saw similar in Borneo (one man wrapped from neck to feet in thick rotan).
Significance
The term Blok (block / stocks) is recorded by Jongejan as part of the cultural, administrative, or institutional vocabulary of Aceh.
